The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
