The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
