The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
