Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
