۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of delight, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
