The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
