So they both proceeded, till, when they embarked the ship, he (Khidr) scuttled it. Musa (Moses) said: "Have you scuttled it in order to drown its people? Verily, you have committed a thing "Imra" (a Munkar - evil, bad, dreadful thing)." 71 Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 72 Moses said, "Please, forgive my forgetfulness. Do not oblige me with what is difficult for me to endure." 73 The two went on till they came to a boy, whom he killed. Moses exclaimed: "You have killed an innocent soul who had taken no life. You have done a most abominable thing!" 74 ۞ He said: "Did I not tell you that you will not be able to patiently bear with me?" 75 [Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse." 76 So they departed; until, when they reached the people of a city, they asked the people for food, but they refused to receive them hospitably. There they found a wall about to tumble down, and so he set it up. He said, 'If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken a wage for that.' 77 He answered, "This is where you and I must part company. But first I will tell you the meaning of the things you could not bear with patiently. 78 "As for the ship, it belonged to Masakin (poor people) working in the sea. So I wished to make a defective damage in it, as there was a king after them who seized every ship by force. 79 "And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief. 80 and we desired that their Lord should grant them another in his place, a son more upright and more tender hearted. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience." 82
