The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
