The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
