The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
