In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ O MAN! 1 We have not sent down the Qur'an to you that you should be burdened, 2 it is only a reminder for him who fears Allah; 3 it is a revelation from Him who has created the earth and the high heavens, 4 The Beneficent Allah is firm in power. 5 To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and whatever lies in between them, and all that lies under the ground. 6 And if thou say anything aloud, [He hears it] since, behold, He knows [even] the secret [thoughts of man] as well as all that is yet more hidden [within him]. 7 Allah - there is no god but He. His are the most excellent names. 8 Have you heard the story of Moses? 9 Lo! he saw a fire [in the desert]; and so he said to his family: "Wait here! Behold, I perceive a fire [far away]: perhaps I can bring you a brand there from, or find at the fire some guidance." 10 When he reached it, he was called: 'O Moses, 11 I am thy Lord; put off thy shoes; thou art in the holy valley, Towa. 12 And I have chosen thee, so hearken unto that which is inspired. 13 I am God. There is no deity save Me; so worship Me alone, and say your prayers in My remembrance. 14 Verily the Hour (of the great change) is about to come. I keep it secret that every soul may be rewarded for its endeavour. 15 Therefor, let not him turn thee aside from (the thought of) it who believeth not therein but followeth his own desire, lest thou perish. 16 "What do you have in your right hand, Moses?" 17 'Why, it is my staff,' said Moses. 'I lean upon it, and with it I beat down leaves to feed my sheep; other uses also I find in it. 18 He said: Cast it down, O Moses! 19 He threw it, and behold! It was a snake, active in motion. 20 Said He, 'Take it, and fear not; We will restore it to its first state. 21 And thrust thy hand within thine armpit, it will come forth white without hurt. (That will be) another token. 22 That We may go on showing you Our greater signs. 23 "Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! Verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience, and has behaved as an arrogant, and as a tyrant)." 24
