Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 They say, 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 That they would be helped, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
