'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
