Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
