Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
