Noah cried to Us, and how excellent was Our response! 75 And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (i.e. drowning), 76 And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth] 77 and We left him thus to be remembered among later generations: 78 "Peace be upon Noah throughout all the worlds!" 79 This is how We reward the virtuous. 80 He is indeed one of Our high ranking, firmly believing bondmen. 81 [and so We saved him and those who followed him] and then We caused the others to drown. 82 ۞ Of his party was also Abraham; 83 When he came to his Lord, with a sound heart. (Free from falsehood). 84 and asked his father and his people, "What is that you worship? 85 "Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire? 86 What do you think of the Lord of the Worlds' 87 Then he cast a glance at the stars (to deceive them), 88 and said: “I am sick.” 89 So they turned away from him, departing. 90 Then he went quietly to the (temple of the deities) and said: “What is the matter with you, why do you not eat? 91 What ails you, that you speak not?' 92 And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand. 93 So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening. 94 but he said, "How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, 95 "When God has created you and what you make?" 96 They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!" 97 But whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We [frustrated their designs, and thus] brought them low? 98 He said, "I will go to my Lord: He is sure to guide me. 99 My Lord, grant me a righteous (son)' 100 (In response to this prayer) We gave him the good news of a prudent boy; 101 And when he reached the age of traveling with him, he said: 'My son, while I was sleeping I saw that I shall slaughter (sacrifice) you, tell me what is your opinion' He replied: 'Father, do as you are ordered (by Allah). Allah willing, you shall find me one of those who are steadfast' 102 When they had both submitted to God, and he had laid his son down on his face, 103 We called out to him "O Abraham! 104 you have indeed fulfilled your dream. Thus do We reward the good-doers.” 105 Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial 106 And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice. (The sacrifice of Ibrahim and Ismail – peace be upon them – is commemorated every year on 10, 11 and 12 Zil Haj). 107 And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation): 108 "Peace and salutation to Abraham!" 109 Thus do We reward the good-doers. 110 He is truly among Our faithful creatures. 111 And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a Prophet and among the righteous ones. 112 We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls. 113
