Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
