The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
