The people of Lut gave the lie to the apostles. 160 Recall, when their brother Lot said to them: "Have you no fear? 161 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 162 So fear Allah, and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage is only with the Lord of the Worlds. 164 "Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, 165 "And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!" 166 They said: if thou desistest not, O Lut! thou shalt surely be of those driven forth. 167 He said: verily I am of those who abhor your work. 168 [And then he prayed:] "O my Sustainer! Save me and my household from all that they are doing!" 169 We saved him and all of his family, 170 Save an old woman among the lingerers. 171 Then We destroyed the others. 172 We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! 173 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 174 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 175
