In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
