The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
