The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By those that pluck out vehemently 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 By the angels hastening, 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 and will be followed by another quaking. 7 hearts will be throbbing, 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 saying 'Go to Pharaoh, he has become exceedingly insolent, 17 Then say thou: wouldst thou to be purified? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 and gathered his people together 23 “I am the supreme lord of you all.” 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). 26
