The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
