He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
