Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
