The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
