The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
