The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
