The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
