The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
