The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion regarding him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
