He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
