In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 "My Lord!" [said Zachariah], "How shall I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached such extreme old age?" 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
