The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
