I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the receding night 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
