The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty. 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
