The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. 2 He created man. 3 and He has taught him the Explanation. 4 The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; 5 And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 6 He raised the sky and set the Balance 7 (Transgress not in the Balance, 8 And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient. 9 And He appointed the earth for the creatures. 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 Grain with husk, and fragrant grasses. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels, 14 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. 15 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 16 [He is] the Sustainer of the two farthest points of sunrise, and the Sustainer of the two farthest points of sunset. 17 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 18 He has let loosed the two seas (the salt water and the sweet) meeting together. 19 With an interstice between them which they cannot cross. 20 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 21 From the two oceans comes pearls and coral. 22 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 23 His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners. 24 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 25
