The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
