(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
