The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
