He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
