The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
