He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
