The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
