The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
