The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
