Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ By the Day of Resurrection, 1 No! I swear by the reproachful soul. 2 Does man think We shall not put his bones together? 3 Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers! 4 Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him: 5 He asks: “When will the Day of Resurrection be?” 6 So when the eyes will be blinded by light. 7 and the moon is eclipsed, 8 and the sun and the moon are brought together, 9 people will say, "Is there anywhere to run away?" 10 But nay: no refuge [for thee, O man]! 11 on that Day, to your Lord alone is the recourse. 12 To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind. 13 But lo, man is well aware of himself, 14 Whatever the excuses he may offer. 15 Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it. 16 Ours it is to gather it, and to recite it. 17 So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation. 18 Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof. 19 Nay! But you love the present life, 20 and give no thought to the life to come [and to Judgment Day]! 21 [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, 22 Looking toward their Lord. 23 And that day will other faces be despondent, 24 Knowing that there will be made to befall them some great calamity. 25 Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit), 26 and it is said: “Is there any enchanter who can step forward and help (by his chanting)?” 27 the while he [himself] knows that this is the parting, 28 And leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded) 29 On that day, the herding will be only towards your Lord. 30
