The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
