The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
