He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
